Nashville Selected by The Boring Company for Underground Loop Project
Tennessee and The Boring Company Unveil the Music City Loop: A Zero-Emissions High-Speed Transit System Connecting Downtown Nashville to the Airport. Nashville, TN - The State of Tennessee and The Boring Company today announced their intent to partner on a transformative new private transportation project that will bring The Boring Company’s innovative Loop system to Nashville, marking a bold step forward in advancing mobility, economic growth, and infrastructure modernization across the region. Loop is an all-electric, zero-emissions, high-speed underground transit system owned and operated by the Boring Company in which passengers are transported directly to their destination. The system will meet or exceed the stringent National Fire Protection Association (NFPA-130) fire and life standard.
This announcement officially kicks off a public process to evaluate potential routes, engage community stakeholders, and finalize plans for the project’s initial 10-mile phase. The Music City Loop will connect downtown and the Convention Center to Nashville International Airport with a transit time of approximately 8 minutes - using underground tunnels beneath state-owned roadways.
Following approvals through this process, construction will begin immediately, with the first segment of the Loop system expected to be operational as soon as Spring 2026.

Nashville was selected by The Boring Company for its rapid growth, strong economic potential, and dedication to embracing smart, forward-looking infrastructure. The Music City Loop will remove thousands of vehicles from surface roads each day, easing traffic congestion while creating numerous job opportunities for residents across Middle Tennessee. The Loop system will also extend the lifespan of Tennessee’s roads, reduce emissions, and offer a safe, fast, and reliable travel option—particularly during major events and Nashville’s robust, year-round tourism season. By giving both residents and visitors more ways to move through the area, it enhances access to downtown, supports Nashville’s vision as a place where Tennesseans can live, work, and play, and helps drive continued economic growth.
Built in America, for Tennesseans
The Loop system will utilize American-made tunneling equipment, built and operated by The Boring Company, which designs and manufactures its technology in the United States. This vertical integration supports U.S.-based innovation and job creation, while delivering world-class infrastructure at lower cost and faster speed.
Importantly, this partnership comes with no financial investment required from Tennessee taxpayers. The project will be entirely privately funded, led by The Boring Company, demonstrating the power of public-private collaboration to solve mobility challenges without placing new burdens on state or local budgets.
